Official numbers
Debt collection agencies: official phone numbers
Numbers that debt collection agencies publish on their own websites. A call from a debt collector can be genuine, and it can be a scam that copies one. Here is what the FCA’s rules say a collector must do, and where to complain.
39 numbers from 26 organisations, checked 13 October 2026 to 14 October 2026.

Your rights when a debt collector calls
Firms that collect consumer credit debts are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The FCA Handbook’s consumer credit rules (CONC 7) say:
- Firms must treat customers who are in arrears or default, or close to it, "with forbearance and due consideration". (CONC 7.3.4R)
- They must not pressurise you to pay a debt within an unreasonably short period, or to raise the money by selling your property or borrowing more. (CONC 7.3.10R)
- They must not contact you at unreasonable times, and must pay due regard to your reasonable requests. (CONC 7.9.4R)
- The person contacting you must explain who they work for and their role. (CONC 7.9.1R)
- They must not unfairly disclose, or threaten to disclose, information about your debt to someone else. (CONC 7.9.6R)
If a collector breaks these rules, complain to the firm first. The Financial Ombudsman Service says most businesses have up to 8 weeks to consider a complaint, and that its service is free and you do not need to pay anyone to represent you.
How scams that copy debt collection agencies work
A call about a debt you do not recognise can be a scam, and a genuine collector can be copied. Do not pay by bank transfer to someone who called you. Contact the firm on a number from its own website, or from a letter you can check against that website.
Ofcom says scammers can fake the number that appears on your phone, which is called spoofing, and that they imitate UK numbers to look like a trusted person or organisation. Knowing details about you does not make a caller genuine.
