How scams that copy debt collection agencies work
A call about a debt you do not recognise can be a scam, and a genuine collector can be copied. Do not pay by bank transfer to someone who called you. Contact the firm on a number from its own website, or from a letter you can check against that website.
Ofcom says scammers can fake the number that appears on your phone, which is called spoofing, and that they imitate UK numbers to look like a trusted person or organisation. Knowing details about you does not make a caller genuine.
This could still be a scam call
Criminals can make their number look like a genuine one (this is called spoofing). If someone calls from this number and asks for money, bank details, a code or passwords, hang up. Then call Intrum UK back on a number you've found yourself, such as the one on their own website or on a letter or bill from them.
