Online safety

This page explains what visitors can and cannot do on this site, how we think the Online Safety Act 2023 applies to it, and how to tell us about a problem.

What visitors can do

  • Read number pages. We publish them from Ofcom's numbering data.
  • Say what kind of call it was. On a number page, a visitor can choose one option from a fixed list (such as “Sales or marketing” or “Silent or hung up”) and say how often it called and who the caller said they were. We show the counts once enough visitors have reported a number. How reports work has the details.
  • Contact us. The contact, removal request and report a problem forms come only to us. Nobody else sees them.

Visitors cannot write comments or reviews, upload images or files, create accounts or profiles, or send messages to each other.

The Online Safety Act

The Act places duties on “user-to-user services”. Paragraph 4 of Schedule 1 to the Act exempts a service where the only way users can communicate is in a few limited ways about content the provider itself publishes. These include expressing a view on that content with a like or dislike button “or other button of that nature”, a symbol, yes/no voting, or by rating or scoring it. Ofcom calls these “limited functionality services”.

The number pages are published by us. The only thing a visitor can add is a choice from our fixed buttons about the call from that number, which we count. So we consider that this site falls within that exemption. This is our own assessment, not a ruling by Ofcom, and we will look at it again before adding any feature that lets visitors post their own content.

Whatever the legal position, we keep a simple way to report a problem and to complain, set out below.

How to tell us about a problem

If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. To report a crime, contact the police on 101, or report fraud at reportfraud.police.uk.

How quickly we act

These are the times we aim for. They are targets, not guarantees.

WhatWe aim to act within
Anything that may be illegal48 hours
Removal requests and other problem reports5 working days
Complaints10 working days

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we dealt with something you reported or a removal request, email hello@whoiscalling.me.uk or use the contact form, and start your message with “Complaint”. We look at it again from the start and aim to reply within 10 working days. If we got it wrong, we put it right.

Children

The site is meant for adults dealing with unwanted calls. Visitors cannot post text, images or messages, or contact each other, so nobody can use it to reach or show content to a child.
