How scams that copy lenders and credit cards work

Lenders and card companies are copied in the same way as banks. UK Finance says callers claim there has been fraud on your account and ask you to move money to a "safe account" that the criminal controls.

Call the lender back on the number on your card, statement or its own website, or call 159 if your bank or card provider is part of it.

This could still be a scam call

Criminals can make their number look like a genuine one (this is called spoofing). If someone calls from this number and asks for money, bank details, a code or passwords, hang up. Then call Close Brothers back on the number on the back of your card, or call 159, which connects you to your bank.
