If the answer to any of these is yes, hang up. A genuine caller will understand.
Are they asking for your details?
Your bank details, PIN, passwords, a one-time passcode or your National Insurance number. Genuine callers do not ask for these out of the blue. Are they rushing you?
Saying you must act now, or something bad will happen. Only criminals try to rush or panic you.Are they asking you to move or pay money?
Especially to a new or “safe” account. Stop and check before you pay anyone who called you.Are they telling you to keep it secret?
Being told not to tell anyone, even your bank, is a warning sign. Are you trusting the number on the screen?
Scammers can make a call show a real bank’s or company’s number. The number on the screen does not prove who is calling.
Not sure? Hang up and call back yourself.
Use a number you trust, such as the one on the back of your bank card, or call 159 to reach your bank. Use a different phone, or wait 10 to 15 minutes, as scammers can keep the line open.
