Office for National Statistics phone numbers

Edited by Richard BarkerChecked 13 October 2026 to 14 October 2026
Office for National Statistics publishes 3 numbers for you to call and 1 number it says it may call you from on its own website. We list each one with the page it is on (4 pages in all), a short quote from that page and the date we checked it.
The numbers it says it calls from are listed first, because they are the ones people look up after a missed call. Office for National Statistics describes it as: "Number ONS uses to phone households about its studies; ONS says it does not cold call".
Its published lines cover: ONS freephone survey enquiry line, including to check an interviewer is genuine; Crime Survey for England and Wales information line (run for ONS by Verian), to check an interviewer or call is genuine; Online social surveys enquiry line, including Welsh language and phone appointments.
Opening hours are shown where Office for National Statistics gives them on the same page.
We checked these pages on 13 October 2026 to 14 October 2026.

How scams that copy market research and surveys work
Genuine research firms do call people, which is why their numbers are worth checking. If a "survey" call asks for your bank details, a payment or a code sent to your phone, hang up.
Ofcom says scammers can fake the number that appears on your phone, which is called spoofing, and that they imitate UK numbers to look like a trusted person or organisation. Knowing details about you does not make a caller genuine.
This could still be a scam call
Criminals can make their number look like a genuine one (this is called spoofing). If someone calls from this number and asks for money, bank details, a code or passwords, hang up. Then call Office for National Statistics back on a number you've found yourself, such as the one on their own website or on a letter or bill from them.
